Pondering Thoughts

It was lovely. I started the day making cinnamon rolls. Watched the Macy’s parade, looked at Black Friday ads, rode my bike, tossed a football, prepared some food, ATE a little bit of food (okay, lots of food), and even managed to get a little bit of writing in. It was a good day.

As I sat in the dark last night, the only light illuminating my office was that of the blue Christmas lights outlining my window. Yes, I’ve officially started celebrating Christmas! My heart swelled with warm emotion as I pondered what I’m thankful for. I am thankful for the family and friends I’ve been blessed to “do life” with. I’m thankful for rich opportunities, life-changing moments, and even responsibilities that have shaped me; shaped my life. I’m thankful for the things in life that stir my heart and move my soul, revealing we all have purpose. Most of all, I’m humbly thankful my God loves me with a fierce, unconditional love, through all of my brokenness, in spite of my flaws and failures.

I also pondered last evening why, sometimes, it take some special “day” to enable us to pause long enough to reflect on those many things of importance to us. I don’t want this to be me. Don’t allow this to be you. I choose to remember, always, the things of life that bring blessings to me, in both big and small ways . . . and to use my blessings to in turn, bless the lives of others, or at the very least, touch a heart or two along the way.

Whether your Thanksgiving day was filled with noise, laughter and maybe even chaos, or whether you perhaps found yourself spending the day quiet and alone, I pray you were reminded of your blessings and of the circumstances or memories that you are . . . thankful for. I’m thankful for all of you today too, and pray that warm gratitude will continue to fill your heart to overflowing.

Happy Thanksgiving!
